More and more Americans are becoming overweight and obese. In fact, studies indicate that about two-thirds of the U.S. adult population is considered overweight. One-third of adults in this country are classified as obese.

Excess weight can affect everything from self esteem to energy level to health. I speak from experience. A few years ago, at the age of 58, my mom was hospitalized for chest pains and needed an angioplasty. In July 2007, I lost my Aunt Pam to uterine cancer. In February 2008, my mom had to have her knee replaced. The common thread in all of these occurrences was the excess weight that my mom and aunt carried.
After losing my aunt and watching my mom battle with her weight and its related ailments, I decided it was time for a change. I not only made some lifestyle changes, including bettering my diet and exercise routines, but I also began to write weight-related articles. (See side panel for links to those articles).
